About

Google and Apple jointly created the Exposure Notifications System out of a shared sense of responsibility to help governments and our global community fight this pandemic through contact tracing.

Exposure Notifications on your smartphone enable contact tracing apps to send you a notification if you’ve likely been exposed to COVID-19. Contact tracing apps will be developed by your local public health authority, not by Google or Apple.

HOW THIS TECHNOLOGY WORKS:

Public health agencies around the country have built Exposure Notification apps to alert you if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, all while preserving your individual privacy. With this information, you can take the necessary precautions to keep your family and community safe. On Android, you can find the app for your area, if available, on Google Play. If you have an iPhone, opt-in to Exposure Notifications in your device settings

You may be wondering about your privacy in using Exposure Notifications:

1. Only public health authorities, who meet specific criteria around privacy, security, and data, can use this system.

2. Other people who are using Exposure Notifications can't see your identity. Neither can Google or Apple, who built the underlying technology.

3. The system doesn’t track your location

4. This technology only works if you decide to opt-in. If you change your mind, you can turn it off at any time
